What is HSPF / HSPF2?
HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) is the heating-mode equivalent of SEER — it measures how efficiently a heat pump converts electricity into heat across a winter season. HSPF2 is the updated 2023 test standard, and higher numbers mean cheaper heating.
Why it matters in Arizona
Arizona winters are so mild that even mid-range HSPF2 heat pumps heat Greater Phoenix homes inexpensively — one reason heat pumps fit the desert better than almost any climate. Prioritize cooling ratings first here; HSPF2 is the tiebreaker.
