What is Refrigerant?
Refrigerant is the working fluid that carries heat through an air conditioner — absorbing it at the indoor coil, releasing it at the outdoor coil, over and over. It circulates in a sealed loop and never gets “used up”: low refrigerant always means a leak, not consumption.
Why it matters in Arizona
If a company offers to “top off” your refrigerant every summer without mentioning a leak, be skeptical — you're paying to slowly vent an expensive substance. Find and fix the leak, or put that money toward a system decision.
